Buying A 300 Wide Tire Kit

By Cynthia Allen

Riding motorcycles is fun and exciting. More and more bikes are coming with the larger fat tires as part of the stock setup. However, those that have older bikes or ones that they might want to modify with the fat tires on the back can easily customize them by getting a 300 wide tire kit. This allows you to save the cost of buying a new bike, but still have better stability and great look.

There are a bunch of parts in the kit. The swing arm is the right size with a matching fender. These are the two most visible parts. Others include offset gears and other pieces designed for the bigger back end and to connect it to the frame. Tires and wheels are often not included because they usually need to match the rest of the bike.

Building your own kit has advantages and disadvantages. If you're willing to spend a lot of money, you can definitely build your own. Each part will need to be ordered and you'll have to make sure they all go together. This allows you to get a total custom looking sets. The best idea for most is to get the kit that is the size you want. All the main pieces are included and ready for custom paint jobs to match the bike. The fender is usually stainless steel and ready to be painted.

There are two popular sizes. The earliest size that was used when the first fat tire was put on a bike is the 240. This size is still very common. Now, though, the 300 tires have become one of the most popular sizes. It's noticeably wider and has a really cool look to it. Either size will do, but you want to make sure that your tire and kit size is the same.

You will have to order the wheel by itself. This is pretty normal since there are so many different styles that could be considered standard. Many will want a custom one made. Others may just want it to match the front wheel in style. Tires are usually not included for the same reason.

You can install them yourself. If you have mechanical skills and are used to working on your bike, you can pull off the old set and install the new one, following the instructions. You'll need to have the right tools for the job. If you're not comfortable doing it, most bike mechanics or bike shops can order them and install them for you. It is vitally important that they are put on correctly for safety issues.

Take the bike for a test ride. If you install the components yourself, take the bike into the parking lot or just nearby your garage. Test the brakes and gears and have someone watch while you ride around in circles. If there is any wobble to the wheel or other things don't seem quite right, fix them or take the bike to a mechanic. You do not want to ride full speed until you are sure everything is installed perfectly.

Fat wheels are the in-thing with bikes right now. They offer a great look and stability that the thinner wheels didn't have. Most of the popular bikes include the fat wheels and upgrading it can be a breeze.
