Guide To Choosing Auto Body Shops In El Paso TX

By Joanna Walsh

When a vehicle is damaged due to an accident, an auto body service may be able to restore it. It's important to understand that not all of these businesses are equal in terms of dependability, and quality so it is necessary to do some research to ensure that one will be getting efficient, hassle-free service. When comparing auto body shops in El Paso TX the customer should keep the following guidelines in mind.

It's best to first check out any prospective auto body shop on the Internet before deciding to hire them. Reviews can be found on many sites, some allow customers to post their experiences and opinions on businesses in many categories, and others cater specifically to those who own a car of the same make and model. Some discretion should be used when reading reviews however, with angry, one-lines rants taking a backseat to more in-depth, serious reviews.

A solid company that believes in the quality of its repairs will offer a warranty to its customers. It's a good idea to always ask to see a copy of the warranty. While many customers might be initially impressed if promised a "lifetime" warranty, they should be aware that it is likely to have many exclusions. Usually a one-year coverage for parts, and two and three years for body work and paint respectively can be considered fair.

It is also important to take the conditions into consideration that are stipulated in the manufacturer's warranty, which may apply in the case of a newer vehicle. Ignoring these regulations can result in the warranty being voided, which is why it is generally best to stick with only original parts and ensure that all repair procedures are approved.

There is nothing out of place about a customer having a high standard when it comes to the safe operation and appearance of his or her vehicle. Clearly communicating to the auto body shop one's insistence on the use of new, factory-original parts is totally acceptable. In some states, the law allows repair shops to use parts which are used or aftermarket, so it's best to find this information out as well.

Rather than just signing one's car over to the first shop which sounds reasonable, it is advisable to contact at least two more repair shops and obtain an estimate from each of them, and detailed description of the repair process. The customer should also use these numbers directly by showing them to the subsequent shops, to ask about any price differences and how these are accounted for.

Choosing a shop which specializes in the specific make of vehicle is recommended whenever possible since they offer more expertise in this area. The shop should also be tidy, well-organized, and have modern equipment. Customers should also find out how long they have been in business, and make note of how helpful and friendly the staff are, and if there are any awards for excellent service on display.

The customer must be certain to get all details pertaining to the extent of the repairs and coverage in written form from the insurer or auto body shop. If an issue came up in which it was needed, a written statement is the only official and acceptable form since it is legally binding.
