When Should You Not Go With Rental Equipment?

By Halisse Enmma

Whether for a high rise building or a three-room home renovation project, acquiring the needed equipment and staying within budget are among the biggest challenges contractors or builders have to deal with. This means they are always on the lookout for more practical ways to gather the equipment they need. This is why many rental equipment services today have become very much in demand since these establishments enable contractors to rent equipment for days, weeks or months at a time.

In addition, there are many rental companies these days so finding the equipment you need is not really that much of a difficulty. There are however, a number of contractors or even property owners themselves that are not quite comfortable with the notion of renting equipment. If so, then when is it a bad idea to rent construction equipment and when should you consider this option?

Construction equipment rentals are great because you only need to pay for the length of time these heavy machinery or even tools will stay on the construction site. This means you get to set a budget accordingly and still get all the equipment needed to get the project done. Additionally, you need not worry about arranging for the equipment to be transported to and from your construction site since the rental companies will have this covered.

Rental terms are pretty flexible, too so you can get generator rental for days or weeks or months depending on your needs and budget. You need to understand however, that when it comes to renting equipment, it would cost you a fortune on rental fees if you were to rent let's say a dump truck or ten on a long term basis, and this is when renting becomes impractical. Meaning, you have to identify the equipment you need and most importantly, the length of time you are going to need the equipment for.

Always keep in mind the general rule of thumb when renting construction equipment: you should never rent anything that you are going to use more than sixty percent of the time. Can you imagine how much it would cost for renting bulldozers for an entire year? Should you need construction equipment on a long term basis, it is best to look at their site to check out leasing or even lease to own options available.

Make sure you will discuss leasing options carefully with the dealers you plan working with so you can end up with the best deals. Compare at least a couple of dealers with each other before you decide which of them to rent or lease construction equipment from and discuss the details of the lease or rental terms with them before you decide to finalize anything.
